Let Me Catch You Up

I recently gave out this blog address to a bunch of new people, so in hopes that some of them actually come check out the blog, here is a summary of what is going on without needing go back through the last 20 posts... I started applying for the Peace Corps 2.5 years ago, and finally received an invitation to serve in Honduras last fall. After increased violence in the country, they cancelled the Honduras program and we all had to get reassigned. I was given the option of Mali or Panama, and after a really rough 36 hours, I picked Panama. I was then placed on Medical Hold for a few months while I got all the correct vaccines needed, and I finally got the email about staging and booked my plane ticket for DC on April 2nd. I am leaving for Panama (via staging in DC) in 8 days, and will be working in rural communities rehabilitating water systems and teaching about water related health issues until July 2014. After an excruciatingly long and arduous 9 hour bus trip, I was finally able to open my letter. I will be going to HONDURAS and I start orientation on FEB 22nd. I will be in training in Honduras then until May 12th when I move out to my site and then will finish my contract with the PC on May 12th 2014. My job title is 'Environment and Water Extensionist' meaning that I work with other government agencies and private voluntary organizations like Engineers Without Borders to:  1. To design and provide technical support for the rehabilitation, construction, or expansion of rural water and sanitation systems. 2. To provide training of rural community water associations and system operators. 3. To deliver environmental and sanitation education to community groups. A World Cup Experience

***Before I say anything, I would just like to state for the record that I am a publicly declared World Cup fan poser. I have never cared about futbol in any context before I came to Panama, and I can neither confirm nor deny that my fandom will continue after my PC Service.*** The World Cup is a big deal to everyone in the world who does not live in America. According to some of my social media updates, I guess maybe even America got somewhat into it this year. If you are a devoted US soccer fan, I don't want to offend you, but American fans are posers compared to Panamanian fans. Before you get all worked up about that statement, take a deep breath. It is maybe not a bad thing you don't take it quite this seriously, nor is it bad that you just don't have to make these kinds of sacrifices to be a fan. In America, it is just easier.
